Job Description

Operations Manager
Royal Motor Yacht Club Port Hacking |
Burraneer, NSW | Full Time

About the Club
Founded in 1934 and situated on the shores of Gunnamatta Bay, Royal Motor Yacht Club Port Hacking is one of the Sutherland Shire's most iconic clubs.
With a full-service marina, slipway, dry storage and casual berthing alongside our restaurant, bars, function spaces and gaming room, RMYC Port Hacking is a genuinely diverse operation.
We're looking for an experienced Operations Manager to take ownership of the Club's day-to-day operations and help us deliver an outstanding experience for our members, guests and boating community.

About the role
Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Operations Manager is a senior operational leader responsible for the effective day-to-day running of the Club, with particular responsibility for bar and gaming operations, reception and member services, marina operations, staff leadership, compliance and venue presentation.
You'll lead our operational team, work closely with Duty Managers, supervisors and frontline staff, and coordinate with our contracted catering partner to ensure the different areas of the Club work together effectively.
This is a senior, hands-on leadership role for someone who is just as comfortable leading the floor during a busy Saturday service or function as they are reviewing operational performance, managing labour and costs, and working with the General Manager on opportunities to improve the Club.
As part of our management team, you'll also regularly undertake Duty Manager shifts, keeping you connected to our members, staff and day-to-day operation.

You'll be given the responsibility and authority to take ownership of routine operational matters, while working closely with the General Manager on broader business priorities and the continued development of the Club.

You'll be involved in:
  • Leading the day-to-day operation of the Club across bar, gaming, reception/member services and marina operations;
  • Leading and developing our Duty Managers and operational staff, while maintaining a hands-on presence through regular Duty Manager shifts and key trading periods;
  • Managing rostering and labour utilisation to ensure effective operational coverage and cost control;
  • Maintaining high standards of member and guest service, venue presentation and operational delivery;
  • Monitoring bar and gaming performance, beverage margins, stock control and key operational costs;
  • Maintaining strong operational compliance across NSW liquor, gaming, harm-minimisation, WHS and Club requirements;
  • Overseeing day-to-day marina operations and maintaining strong relationships with berth holders, members and contractors;
  • Working collaboratively with the Club's contracted catering partner to coordinate food service with Club operations, functions and events;
  • Coordinating routine maintenance and contractors and supporting the General Manager with facility improvements and capital projects;
  • Managing operational incidents, member feedback and complaints within delegated authority; and
  • Providing regular operational reporting and recommendations to the General Manager.

About you
You're a proven operational leader who understands that great Club management is about both people and performance.
You're comfortable leading from the floor, developing staff and engaging with members, while also understanding the numbers, compliance obligations and operational disciplines required to run a successful NSW registered club.
Importantly, you're someone who enjoys being visible and involved in the operation. While this is a senior management position, you'll be comfortable undertaking regular Duty Manager shifts and working alongside the team during key trading periods.

Ideally, you'll bring:
  • A strong leadership track record in registered clubs, licensed hospitality venues or similarly complex operations;
  • Demonstrated experience leading multi-department operational teams;
  • Strong knowledge of bar and gaming operations;
  • A hands-on leadership style and the ability to develop Duty Managers, supervisors and frontline staff;
  • Sound financial and commercial acumen, including labour management and operational cost control;
  • Strong member/customer service and complaint-resolution skills;
  • Knowledge of NSW registered club, liquor and gaming compliance requirements;
  • Strong organisational, communication and decision-making skills;
  • Current NSW RSA and RCG competencies, with other relevant management and compliance qualifications highly regarded; and
  • An interest in or experience with boating, marina or marine operations would be advantageous.

Why join RMYC Port Hacking?
This is an opportunity to take on a key senior operational role within one of the Sutherland Shire's best-known waterfront clubs.
You'll enjoy a genuinely varied role spanning hospitality, gaming, member services and marina operations, with the autonomy to take ownership of day-to-day operations while working directly with the General Manager.
For the right person, it offers an attractive balance between senior operational leadership and remaining connected to the floor - leading people, engaging with members and being directly involved in delivering the Club experience.
You'll also be joining a Club with more than 90 years of history, a strong member community and an exceptional waterfront location on Gunnamatta Bay.

If you're an experienced operational leader who enjoys being close to the action, developing people and making things run well, we'd love to hear from you.
