Job Description
General ManagerCarnarvon Golf Club | Lidcombe, NSW
Carnarvon Golf Club is one of Sydney's most established golf and community clubs, featuring a championship 18-hole golf course, a growing golf membership, strong clubhouse trade, gaming operations, functions and events business, and a loyal membership base of more than 2,700 members.
The Club is seeking an experienced, commercially minded and highly visible General Manager to lead the next stage of its development. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the successful candidate will be responsible for driving operational performance, strengthening member engagement, developing staff capability and helping shape the long-term future of the Club.
Recent initiatives have improved the Club's financial position, enhanced gaming performance, strengthened the food and beverage offering and positioned the business for future growth. The Board is now seeking a leader who can build on this momentum while providing strong leadership across both operational and strategic priorities.
The Role
Working closely with the Board, President and senior leadership team, you will lead all aspects of the Club's operations, including gaming, hospitality, functions, membership, marketing, financial management, compliance and people leadership.
You will play a key role in continuing to grow clubhouse patronage, enhancing the member experience, developing staff, identifying commercial opportunities and ensuring the Club remains responsive to the evolving needs of members and guests.
Beyond day-to-day operations, the General Manager will contribute to significant strategic initiatives and long-term planning activities that will influence the Club's future. The role requires a confident and credible leader who can represent the Club's interests, navigate complex and evolving external matters, and build constructive relationships across government, regulatory, industry and community environments. Clear communication with the Board and members will be critical as these matters progress.
About You
We are seeking a visible and engaging leader who enjoys being part of the operation, building relationships with members and staff, and working closely with an active and supportive Board.
- Senior leadership experience within clubs, hospitality, gaming, golf or related member-based organisations.
- Strong commercial and financial management capability.
- Experience leading, developing and mentoring teams.
- Strong marketing, member engagement and business development skills.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Experience working collaboratively with Boards and Committees.
- Highly organised with a structured approach to planning, administration, reporting and project delivery.
- The confidence and professionalism to engage with regulators, government agencies, industry bodies and community stakeholders, including on complex, sensitive and long-term strategic matters.
- Strong governance, compliance and reporting skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead strategic initiatives while maintaining excellence in day-to-day operations.
Whilst golf industry experience will be viewed favourably, it is not essential. The Board is equally interested in candidates who have demonstrated success leading quality clubs, hospitality venues or member-focused organisations.
Why Carnarvon?
This is an opportunity to lead a respected club with a strong membership base, quality golf facilities, improving commercial performance and a supportive Board committed to the Club's future.
The successful candidate will inherit an experienced leadership team, a business with genuine momentum and the opportunity to play a meaningful role in shaping the Club’s next chapter.
Remuneration
An attractive executive package will be negotiated with the successful candidate and will reflect experience, capability and overall fit for the role.
